Autism Cares Foundation Presents The First Annual Race for Resources!

To all Race for Resources Participants:

First of all thank you for taking part in what is to be a great event. I wanted to cover a couple of points to help avoid confusion on Saturday.
  • If you registered by Tuesday November 9th, your packet will be available at packet pickup this Thursday and Friday (November 11th & 12th) at the Newtown Athletic Shoe Shop (12 Washington Avenue Newtown PA, 18940). If you are picking up for more than just yourself, you will need their names and team name (if on a team). We encourage you to take advantage of packet pickup to avoid the crowds at the registration tent on Saturday as we are expecting over 1000 people!
  • If you did not register by November 9th or were not able to make it to packet pickup, you may pickup your race packet at the registration tent on race day. There will be race day registration as well. Both race day registration and race day packet pickup will be at the registration tent starting at 7:30am and ending at 9:00am sharp.
  • Location has changed from last year’s 5K. This year we are starting the event at the parking area in from of the Earth Center for the Arts at Tyler State Park, 10 Stable Mill Trail, Richboro, PA 18954. The crowd this year will be approximately 10 times larger than last year’s 5k. Fire Police will be directing traffic on Newtown Richboro road for your safety. Plus there will be a significant walk from the parking area to the starting area. Please allow enough time to get to the starting area by 9:00 at the latest if you pre-registered and are taking advantage of the packet pickup. If you are registering or picking up your packet on race day, the registration tent opens at 7:30 and closes at 9:00 sharp to allow for a 9:30 race start. Please give yourself plenty of time.
  • No dogs please. Due to the large number of special needs children participating in this event and the drastically different ways they may react to a dog (fear, hug, jump on…) we are asking participants to leave their dogs at home.
  • Race day schedule:

    Opening Ceremony / Group warm-up9:15 am - 9:30 am

  • It is advised that runners view the course maps prior to the race. Large maps will be displayed on the side of the registration tent prior to the start. Keep in mind that the 5K and 10K courses are identical up to the bridge crossing the creek by the boat house. At the bridge, the 10K course will take runners across the bridge to Tyler driver along the opposite side of the creek. While the 5K course does not cross the bridge, but instead continues past for a short distance to the turn around. The courses will be marked and it is up to you to know which race (5K or 10K) that you are running and follow the appropriate signs. Remember the runner that you are following could be running a different course.
  • We are doing all we can to make this a fun and informative event. However, we can not provide supervision for any children attending this event. Please bring enough help to supervise any children that you bring out to enjoy the day. Remember that Tyler Park is a state park used by people for all sorts of activities. As such, there are many things that are outside of the control of Autism Cares Foundation. So please keep your eyes open for slipping/tripping hazards (leaves, sticks, uneven pavement, horse droppings, fallen trees…) during the event.
  • Have old shoes lying around the house? The Re-Use Your Shoes truck will be at the race to collect your old shoes, so bring them to the race and donate them to a good cause (www.reuseyourshoes.com).

If you have any questions that I did not address, please feel free to email me (mgrant@autismcaresfoundation.org).

Thank you,

Mike Grant
