I just wanted to give everyone an update on some of the things (the top 10) that have been happening for the Race for Resources Event:
- With just under 4 weeks to go until the event, we have nearly 450 runners & walkers registered (so far), 41 fantastic organizations registered (so far) for the Autism Expo and with an amazing effort by all of you, we are over half way to our goal of $75,000! Get a preview of the Expo Organizations (www.autismcaresfoundation.org/acf_autism_expo_orgs.php) and be sure to let everyone that you know who is dealing with Autism that the Autism Expo at the race will be a great way for them to learn about all of the resources that are available in THIS area. Remember, there is no charge to go to the expo!
- The start of both runs and the walk will all happen together at 9:30 sharp. As the runs are chip timed, we will simply organize the participants by speed (faster runners up front, walkers in the back). The group warm up will start at about 9:15, so you should plan on being at the starting area no later than 9:00. If you are planning on registering or picking up you packet on Race Day, you will need to be even earlier as registration closes at 9:00 sharp. We strongly suggest registering online prior to November 1 and picking up your packet at the Newtown Athletic Shoe Shop on the Thursday or Friday before the race.
- Instructors from East West Karate of Richboro will be leading the group warm up just prior to the start of the race.
- The East West Karate Demo Team will perform after the race, just prior to the awards ceremony and they will be available through out the day for you all to try your hand (or head) at board breaking.
- The Fun Bus will be there from 10:00 to 1:00 for the young kids 2 – 7 years old (www.funbuses.com).
- Jason Heart Klein Entertainment will be on hand to entertain us all with great family music
- 29 teams will be recognized on the back of the race shirt for their fundraising effort in the Race for Resources. Even if your team did not make the shirt, we will still display (on the 3 video screens) the team names of all teams that raise at least $250 by Friday, November 12th, 2010 at 5:00pm. Plus we will announce the top 10 teams just prior the group warm up.
- Some of the guys from the Rock the Boat for Autism group (www.rocktheboatforautism.org) will be at the expo. Stop by to talk about their amazing journey from Boca Raton FL, to Sea Isle City NJ in 2 seventeen foot Van Duyne Surf Boats! I had a chance to talk to James and Larry about the trip and what they are doing now and it was truly inspirational.
- Have old shoes lying around the house? The Re-Use Your Shoes truck will be at the race to collect your old shoes, so bring them to the race and donate them to a good cause (www.reuseyourshoes.com).
- Remember that you must register by November 1st to be guaranteed a t-shirt. Even though kids 10 and under are free, if you want to be sure to have a shirt for them, be sure to register them before November 1st.
All of us at Autism Cares Foundation want to thank you all for participating in the Race for Resources and ask that you keep it up! Please continue to spread the word to friends, family, neighbors…to get them out as runners or walkers. Be sure to let everyone in the area dealing with Autism know that the Expo is a free resource that can help. If you know of an organization that should be part of the expo, but they are not listed, please send their information to me and I will contact them.
Thanks a lot,
Mike Grant
